I’m trying to help a loved one
More than 350 young people and community members descended on Kingsbury Park last week when headspace Kalgoorlie celebrated the amazing milestone that was their 10th birthday.
Providing fun for all ages, the event featured Angie with Fairy Face Painting, Kay-Cho-La’s Icecream Van, Queen Bees Coffee, Party Boss with a massive balloon igloo, and BMG Productions with sound, lighting and audio visual.
In addition to the many goodies on offer, the event also offered a Chill Out Zone, Arts and Crafts Station, and a truly impressive cake tower in headspace’s signature green.
Many of these local businesses provided their goods and services to the Kalgoorlie community for free, making it an even better day for many of the attendees.
Community Praise
Since the event, young people and the community have been singing the praises of the team on social media.
“The energy yesterday was electric,” reported one. “I can’t wait for the next one!”
The celebration was organized by headspace’s incredible Youth Advisory Board, who went above and beyond assisting with setup, pack down and community engagement.
The event made such an impression that the Board even managed to recruit a new member.
HOPE Reflections
HOPE CEO Tracey Brand reflected on the decade of impact that headspace Kalgoorlie had achieved.
“headspace Kalgoorlie was truly born from the local community’s passionate advocacy,” Ms Brand said.
“Young people, families and local organisations came together, demanding better. HOPE answered that call, establishing a service dedicated to a future where there is no shame, no stigma in asking for the help we all sometimes need.
“This journey has been defined by resilience, growth, and an unwavering commitment to youth mental health.” Ms Brand stated.
Ms Brand acknowledged this decade of impact, honouring the dedication of the headspace team, consortium partners, community organisations and volunteers—especially the Youth Advisory Board, whose voices serve as the vital compass guiding the service.
HOPE Goldfields North Regional Manager Sarah Nickson also reflected on the milestone.
“headspace Kalgoorlie has always been about giving young people a voice and space to be themselves and work through tough challenges,” she said.
“Our 10 year celebration reflected that spirit – the energy, ideas, creativity and leadership of the Youth Advisory Board, how much this service belongs to the community, and the incredible support from community, partners, and our dedicated team
“It’s a proud milestone that reminds us what we can achieve and how much we can grow when young people and their families are at the centre of everything we do.”
