Innovative ideas to strengthen our organisation were pitched to the Executive Team at last month’s inaugural HOPE Tank.
The day was the culmination of the Compass Initiative, which tasked team members from around the State with turning feedback from the 2025 Staff Engagement Survey into meaningful actions across four key areas.
After five months of planning and collaboration, the four Compass Teams presented their ideas to the HOPE Tank, in a format inspired by the Shark Tank TV show. Each group had a 60-minute opportunity to present their chosen initiative, take questions from the panel, and hear some initial feedback afterwards.
The initiatives included a new buddy system; a career development framework; a visible feedback and action hub; and a values-based recognition program.
HOPE CEO Tracey Brand said the Compass Initiative, and subsequent HOPE Tank, had highlighted the remarkable talent, innovation and passion within the organisation.
“The quality of the ideas presented was exceptional, demonstrating that when we empower and create space for our incredible people to contribute and innovate, they generate solutions that can strengthen our organisation, enhance the way we work, and inspire new opportunities,” she said.
Connecting colleagues
The Compass Initiative also provided an opportunity for team members to get to know their peers from around the State, bringing together colleagues from different locations, services and roles.
Midwest Youth Mentor Mercy Kiplagat said she had enjoyed collaborating with her peers.
“It’s been amazing to have this intentional space created for us to connect with other team members through the Compass Initiative,” she said.
“It’s also a great example of how important it is for us all to make time and connect with each other – even if it’s online.”
The HOPE Executive Team is now reviewing the ideas and business cases.
