We are a not-for-profit, registered charity delivering community services in Western Australia for more than 120 years, providing much needed support to people affected by alcohol and other drugs, mental health challenges, youth justice, family violence and socioeconomic disadvantage.

We have a diverse workforce and over the past 2 years have experienced growth and geographical expansion. We anticipate ongoing growth in our four areas of delivery service:

• Alcohol and Other Drugs
• Youth Justice Services
• Family and Domestic Violence
• Mental Health.

About the opportunity

HOPE is entering an exciting phase of strategic growth, service innovation and organisational transformation, making this an excellent time to join the Board. As an active member of the Board of Directors, you will contribute to strategic direction and effective oversight of management.

The Board is professional and skills based. All Directors are firmly committed to the vision, values and purpose of the organisation, while providing a diversity of skills, experience and perspectives. The Board is responsible for the governance and oversight of Hope’s operations, while promoting the strength of the organisation.

A key objective of the Board is to encourage management to continuously strive to improve performance, considering risk and governance. We’re particularly interested in candidates with expertise in leadership, risk and finance within the community services sector.

The successful candidate will:

• Have strong leadership, strategic, risk, financial and corporate governance experience in either a senior executive/chief executive role or non-executive role.
• Demonstrate an understanding of delivering services under Federal or State government funding agreements.
• Demonstrate skills in governance, risk and strategic thinking.
• Ideally have a relevant qualification in one of HOPE’s service areas, finance, risk or corporate governance.
• Hold an AICD Director qualification or be prepared to obtain it within the first term of their appointment.
• Hold or be willing to obtain Director ID and National Police Clearance (within the last 3 months).

Directors are appointed in accordance with the HOPE Constitution for a three-year term. Director fees are paid with other expenses directly incurred because of Board Director duties (travel, accommodation, parking) reimbursed.

As a Non-Executive Director, you will be expected to:

• be aligned to HOPE’s vision, values and purpose
• actively contribute to HOPE’s strategic direction.
• have the passion and time to commit to Board activities
• act within applicable laws, the code of conduct and policies
• be a positive ambassador for HOPE
• have a developed understanding of governance roles.

The following commitment is expected:

• Attendance at monthly Board and Committee These meetings will be held in Perth. Video conferencing is available, although in person attendance is expected at the majority of meetings.
• Assignment to at least one Board Committee:
  • Governance Committee
  • Finance & Audit Committee, or
  • Risk Committee
• Participation in major HOPE events.
• Attendance at the Annual General Meeting, workshops, Board training or other special meetings as deemed necessary.
• Ongoing professional development.
