About the Role:

As a Residential Support Worker within youth justice residential services, you will contribute to a supportive and caring team environment by building relationships with young people  based on trust and respect. The role of a Residential Support Worker includes all aspects of day to day service delivery including creating a nurturing, safe and healthy environment to support young people to develop individual goals and strategies to manage their behaviours and wellbeing.  You will also need to respond appropriately to challenging behaviours, manage conflict and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards.

Duties:

  • Provide culturally competent and respectful support to residents
  • Support residents to develop and achieve their case management goals
  • In consultation with residents and other staff, coordinate, plan and evaluate daily/weekly activities
  • Role model socially appropriate behaviour
  • Positive mentoring of youth
  • Confidentiality and consistently respond to challenging behaviours and conflicts with and between residents in line with HOPE’s model of care
  • Manage the procedures for residents to experience healthy lifestyle and recreational activities
  • Educate and support residents to develop goals and strategies to manage their wellbeing
  • Report and share resident information with other Hope staff, as appropriate
  • Transport residents to and from programs and appointments as required
  • In conjunction with residents, ensure that the upkeep of the properties maintains at a high standard.

Requirements of the role:

  • Desirable: Certificate III in Youth, Mental Health, and/or Community Services or currently studying towards, experience in working with challenging young people
  • DCS Clearance, National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, current unrestricted WA Driver’s licence and current First Aid Certificate
