Our Kalgoorlie headspace office have helped another young mind, and we couldn’t be happier for this client. Read more about her story here.
I came to headspace to address my anxiety, depression, and anger issues. I also wasn’t sure where I was heading in life and what I wanted to study at University. Mary, my Clinical Lead, suggested I seek some support from the Work and Study program.
The Work and Study Coordinator Kate printed out the outline of the courses that I was interested in at Murdoch University. She gave me information on:
- Government Support
- Tertiary Access Payment
- Financial Assistance
- Scholarship Finder
- Paying your fees
- High school pathways/Pathways to Uni
- Understanding ATAR
- Enabling pathways
- Media Portfolio.
Kate did explain to me that if Uni seems to be a little bit overwhelming, I could always go to South Metro Tafe and do a course there. I was curious to have a look as I was open to other suggestions.
Kate assured me that all this research can be overwhelming, however I can take the printouts home and talk to my mum about the courses and see if I’m happy to move forward.
My Clinical Lead Mary, who original suggested the Work and Study program, would do monthly phone calls with me to check in on my mental health and life in general.
After talking to Kate in our sessions, and all the help I received from her, I realised I want to study Digital Media at University. I now know I have to do a bridging course first, and I will be sending in my applications to study next year.
I feel less hopeless now and my mum is happy that I know what I want to do. The Work and Study program is pretty cool, it’s what I need, and it was fun which I didn’t expect.
I’m a lot more confident now.
