In July our teams around WA were privileged to be part of NAIDOC celebrations that recognised the strength, culture, leadership and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in our communities.

This year the celebrations were particularly special, marking 50 years since the first NAIDOC Week was celebrated.

HOPE teams marked the occasion by attending Opening Ceremonies, joining NAIDOC marches and supporting community events. Here’s a snapshot of what kept us busy throughout the week:

  • In Port Hedland, Regional Manager Bobbie-Joe Wilson joined Ngaarda Media at the IBN NAIDOC event, while throughout the week the Port Hedland team attended community events including the joy-filled NAIDOC Family Inflatables Day, hosted by the Town of Port Hedland.
  • In Karratha, our team joined the PKKP NAIDOC Week Community Event, connecting with hundreds of community members through bracelet making and fingerprint artwork activities.
  • In Armadale we hosted yarning sessions for team members to reflect on what NAIDOC meant to them.
  • In Kalgoorlie our teams organised the Orica 2026 NAIDOC Youth Ball, held a special NAIDOC Men’s Bush Trip and attended the NAIDOC Week Wrap-up hosted by the Eastern Goldfields First Nations Council.

Our teams were grateful for the opportunity to learn from the diverse cultures and enduring traditions of Aboriginal people from across this vast State.

At HOPE we recognise that NAIDOC is more than a single week – it is a platform for truth-telling, a celebration of identity and an opportunity to learn about the positive contributions Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander have made in shaping our communities.

HOPE, as an organisation, is deeply committed to embedding these learnings into our practice, ensuring we deliver culturally responsive, respectful, and impactful services for every Aboriginal client we support.

HOPE provides a range of community services around alcohol and other drugs, family and domestic violence, mental health and youth justice.
