Sleigh Bells Ring at Hope Springs

The Hope Springs Therapeutic Community team have secured their spot on the Nice List this year by helping Geraldton’s community find the perfect Christmas gifts.

For the second year running, Hope Springs team members will be participating in Christmas on the Terrace, one of Geraldton’s most-loved community events. The festive occasion provides an opportunity for our team to showcase residents’ skills, creativity and the meaningful work they and our staff do every day.

Over recent weeks, staff and residents have been busy preparing a range of handcrafted items for the market, contributing their unique abilities to develop quality products that reflect both care and craftsmanship.

This year, the stall’s merchandise includes the ever-popular wooden cutting boards, a stunning wooden bench and quirky monster sculptures.

Preparing for a Merry Christmas

From early planning to hands-on workshop time, the lead-up to Christmas on the Terrace has been an experience of collaboration, patience and pride.

A key part of the preparation has been combining the skillsets of woodwork and metalwork. Guided by Hope Springs Facilities and Maintenance Coordinator Harley Royce and Max Royce, residents have transformed materials into finished pieces; shaping, sanding, welding and refining to bring character into each piece.

“Watching the residents go through the process of planning, and all the steps involved in the creation of each piece is awesome. You can tell how rewarding it is for them,” Harley says.

Senior residents will also join the team on the day, helping to man the booth and celebrate the hard work that has gone into each piece, as well as their commitment to the program. Their presence also provides them with a chance to connect directly with the community and share their insights into the Hope Springs experience.

There is a real sense of excitement among the team as they prepare for the event. Many are hopeful that their handcrafted items will find new homes with market attendees on the day. For the team, each purchase represents not just a sale, but appreciation of the time, skill, and dedication put into the work.

“They’ve put a lot into this,” Harley tells us. “I think it’ll be nice for them to see how much people like their work. We’ve just about got a wait list for the chopping boards.”
